Dear DK8 Families,

We are excited to share that we’ve successfully reached our fundraising goal for the NC GreenPower Solar+ Schools grant program with the generous support of Trane Technologies, our Champion Sponsor, based here in Davidson. We are also grateful to our DK8 families that contributed to this effort. We will soon have an educational solar photovoltaic (PV) system with 12 solar panels installed right on our DK8 campus!

DK8 was one of only 15 schools in the state chosen to receive the grant in 2021 and only the 3rd in CMS since the program’s inception in 2015. This program is administered by NC GreenPower* and offers a 5-kilowatt solar array that comes with a weather station, data monitoring equipment, a STEM curriculum developed for our K-8 students, and a training workshop for our teachers. Our students will have the ability to learn about clean energy through a hands-on STEM curriculum tailored for grade levels. As a bonus, DK8 may save up to $800 on energy costs each year. The estimated install date for the solar PV system is spring/summer 2022, with the STEM curriculum set to roll out for the 2022-23 school year.

Trane Technologies launched a new corporate citizenship strategy, Sustainable Futures. One area of focus is to enhance learning environments for students. By leveraging the company’s expertise and resources, the company will support a generation of learners with the potential to transform our way of life, making this partnership with DK8 a perfect fit. And it’s extra special, as we have several DK8 parents at our school employed by Trane Technologies.

We’re beyond grateful to Trane Technologies and NC GreenPower for their efforts in supporting DK8 and taking a step toward reducing negative impacts on the environment, working to provide a cleaner, greener future for our school and our Davidson community, and helping to educate our DK8 students about clean energy – how it works and its impact.
